Peter Schmidt lives and works in Berlin, the city where he was born.

The first visual art photographs were taken in 1973. An intensive focus on photography took place during his work as assistant set designer and set designer for television in the GDR, from 1975 to 1985 in the department of dramatic art.

From 1986 – 1992 honorary work as course and seminar leader in the fields: photography and painting / graphics. From 1991 – 2000 project development and project management of interdisciplinary media projects in the visual and applied arts.

In the period from 1986 to 1991 various social documentary picture series were created and in the years 1990 to 2000 artistic cycles from the areas of: portrait, landscape and cityscape, from 1998 to 2000 especially with picture carriers with an increased contrast range.

Since 2001 there has been a strong focus on working with the Camera Obscura, especially in the areas of city and landscape photography.

In 2004 the multifunctional workshop gallery “photo- und grafikmanufaktur berlin” was built.

Since 2011 project work in the field of environmental and nature conservation.
